Rhythm 'n' Brass CD coverWoolston Rhythm'n'Brass

Versatile, and by no means a stranger to jazz on the big band stand, it was perhaps inevitable that Musical Director Graham Hickman, would lead the band on a swing excursion sooner rather than later. Under his expert guidance, and with the establishment of an annual "Black Tie Ball" fund-raising event, Woolston Brass have developed a significant big band repertoire. Spiced with vocals, keyboards and a rhythm section, Rhythm 'n' Brass is a feast of favourite songs from the Black Tie playlist topped off with big band instrumental classics. Though garnished aplenty, rest assured Woolston's big brass band sound is undiminished. It's as boisterous as ever, only with some fun thrown in. And if fun is infectious, you'd better brace yourself for a heavy dose of the good times with Rhythm 'n' Brass.

anzacANZAC

The word 'ANZAC' is an acronym for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps and was coined in Egypt immediately prior to the disastrous Gallipoli campaign during the first World War. April 25, 1915 was the day on which the ANZAC troops landed on Turkish-help Gallipoli, This date is still observed as a public holiday on which New Zealanders honour the gallantry of their nation's armed forces. In recent years Woolston Brass has marked this day of remembrance with an 'ANZAC CONCERT'. This CD recording features highlights from this increasingly popular series.

sacredSacred

As one reviewer wrote: 'Inspirational music from one of the world's foremost brass bands under the direction of David Gallaher. While brass bands have always had a special way with hymn tunes, Sacred breaks new ground, lending renewed dignity to music that has perhaps for some, become over-familiar. This is an album of original compositions and arrangements that take us far beyond "The Red Hymn Book". Listeners will find pleasure,  comfort and perhaps even inspiration therein.'
This CD recording is dedicated with grateful thanks to Ken and Bev Loader, Gethsemane Gardens, Christchurch.

echoesWoolston Echoes:

This vintage recording was produced by American Reg McGovern in the early 1980′s, at which time the band was under the baton of the late Merven Waters. The original liner notes state that the album is 'an international potpourri of seldom-heard marches'. The punch and verve of the original analogue tracks have lost nothing in translation. In fact, even more fire-power has been revealed in the digital version.’ Woolston Echoes is a great way to listen back to an old master at work – a collector's item par excellence!
